The Columbia County Agricultural Society, the not-for-profit organization that proudly presents the Columbia County Fair over Labor Day weekend, is launching a college scholarship program.

It will award $1,000 merit scholarships to two students who have been active in the Columbia County Fair as an exhibitor, presenter, volunteer, or in some other capacity.

Applicants must be completing their senior year at any high school in Columbia County in 2017 and must be enrolled as a full-time student in an accredited two or four-year college to commence in the fall of 2017, pursuing a field of study related to agriculture.

The application may be downloaded from the Fair web site, www.columbiafair.com, and must be submitted in hard-copy form to the Fair Office, 32 Church Street, PO Box 257, Chatham NY 12037. August 1, 2017 is the deadline for filing the application.

Applications will be scored based upon the following criteria: Fair Participation, 40%; Essay, 30%; Academic Achievement, 20%; and Community Service, 10%.

Recipients will be announced during a ceremony at the 2017 Columbia County Fair. Payment will be made upon completion of the recipients’ Fall 2017 semester.
